Choral Music with Instruments
How Can I Keep from Singing Concertato on "Quaker Hymn" arranged by Frederick Frahm for Congregation, SATB Choir, String Quartet, and Organ This concertato was commissioned by the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada for their 1994 conference The overall feeling is one of quiet introspection, in keeping with the "inmost calm" of the hymn text. Although the original arrangement called for a string quartet of two Violins, Viola and Cello, flute and oboe can play from the violin parts, and bassoons can play from the cello parts. Alternate parts are included for another Viola, another Cello, Clarinets I-III, and F Horn. To present this composition effectively, the instruments can be strings only, woodwinds only, or a mixed ensemble of strings and woodwinds. In addition, various doublings may be made for larger ensembles. The difficulty level for the instruments is 3, and the choral parts are at a similar level. Full set includes one each of the following: Conductor/Organ Score, Choral Score, Organ Score, parts for all the instruments listed above, and performance notes. Purchasers have permission from Live Oak House to reproduce any material in this set for (only) their own use.
