Choral Music with Instruments

Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed
Concertato on "Martyrdom" (Avon") arranged by Robert J. Powell
for Congregation, SATB Choir, String Quartet, and Organ

This concertato is very descriptive of the hymn text. Not only the choral lines, but also the instrumental lines "sing." The unaccompanied choral stanza does not contain the hymn tune, but rather presents new music that complements the hymn tune and its harmonization.

Although the original arrangement called for a string quartet of two Violins, Viola and Cello, flute and oboe can play from the violin parts, and bassoons can play from the cello parts. Alternate parts are included for another Viola, another Cello, Clarinets I-III, and F Horn, so that the quartet can be formed in different ways, or various doublings may be made for larger ensembles. The difficulty level for the instruments is 3, and the choral parts are at a similar level.

Full set includes one each of the following: Full Score, Choral Score, Organ Score, parts for all the instruments listed above, and performance notes. Purchasers have permission from Live Oak House to reproduce any material in this set for (only) their own use.
